Constipation should not simply be accepted or ignored. Persistent constipation or any change in bowel habit should be investigated, especially in children and pregnant women!

Constipation in Infants and Children

Infants who experience constipation are the most vulnerable because they have no way of expressing their discomfort except to become irritable and fussy. Sometimes infant constipation is mistaken for colic, and children end up suffering longer than they have to. Toddlers often instinctively strain when they have hardened stools, but this is unhealthy and dangerous behavior. Children also can act out and become ill-tempered when they are constipated. The best way to prevent children from straining and experiencing abdominal pain in the diaper or on the potty is to prevent constipation at all costs.

There are specific warning signs for infant and toddler constipation that all parents need to be aware of. Learn about safe and effective treatments that you can use in the event that your young child becomes constipated. Keeping kids’ diet healthy and balanced for proper bowel movement makes everyone in the home happier.

MY PERSONAL STORY

I suffered from chronic severe constipation when I was pregnant with my third child. Like many other mothers, pregnancy caused me to be anemic, so I had to take extra iron supplements. Adding iron to your diet can cause constipation, and mine was severe. I was so constipated that I would cry during my bowel movements because of the pain. The straining to push out stool was so severe that I could feel pressure in my head; It was just that bad. I took stool softeners and laxatives, but they did not really help.

About a week after I had my baby, I experienced a sudden, intense headache - the worst headache of my life. It felt like a sledge hammer had split my head in two. The pain was so extreme that I had to be hospitalized, where doctors discovered that I had a non-aneurysmal subarachnoid brain hemorrhage. However, I did not have an aneurysm, nor could they find the source or reason for my brain bleed.

Things began making sense when the doctors explained that excessive straining has been known to cause increased intracranial pressure. I strained so much during my pregnancy from severe constipation and then had a vaginal birth - the pressure had just been building and building. I am not suggesting chronic constipation or vaginal birth causes brain hemorrhage, but I do see that straining due to constipation would negatively impact such a condition and could increase one‘s risk. I also developed hemorrhoids and had to have a Hemorrhoidectomy due to extremely hard stools.

I knew I would have to change my lifestyle to prevent myself from experiencing such pain and embarrassment again. As a result of this experience, through diligent research and consulting with medical personnel, I wrote this ebook in part because I want to keep other women from going through the angst I experienced. Had I known about the causes and remedies of constipation back then, I am convinced I would not have experienced the unpleasant and expensive (financially and emtionally) side effects of my pregnancy.

As the author of the No More Constipation ebook, I take the information I provide you with very seriously. I have three children myself. I understand that what is most effective for one child may not be as effective for the other. Not to mention, I suffered from severe constipation myself. I know from experience with certain modifications, constipation can be greatly reduced or eliminated altogether.
